Foxen Vineyard & Winery – Heritage Meets Innovation on the Foxen Canyon Trail
Founded in 1985 by winemaking partners Bill Wathen and Dick Doré, Foxen Vineyard & Winery is deeply rooted in Santa Barbara County’s rich agricultural past. The winery takes its name from Doré’s great-great-grandfather, Captain William Benjamin Foxen—an English sea captain who settled in the region in the early 1800s and purchased the 9,000-acre Rancho Tinaquaic, much of which now makes up Foxen Canyon. The iconic anchor logo, once Captain Foxen’s cattle brand, remains the winery’s symbol of legacy and authenticity.
Foxen’s commitment to minimalist winemaking and sustainable practices is reflected in every bottle. Their solar-powered winery and tasting rooms exemplify a balance between innovation and tradition. Guests are invited to explore two unique tasting experiences: FOXEN, which highlights elegant Burgundy, Rhône, and Loire-style wines, and Foxen 7200, the original rustic tasting room affectionately known as “The Shack,” where Bordeaux and Italian varietals shine.
With panoramic views of the historic Rancho Tinaquaic and the charm of Santa Barbara wine country, Foxen offers more than just wine—it’s an invitation to step into a story. Enjoy a laid-back tasting experience while exploring the full range of Foxen’s small-lot, sustainably farmed wines.
Open daily from 11:00am to 4:00pm, Foxen welcomes walk-ins and reservations. Club members enjoy exclusive perks including complimentary tastings, a private lounge, and special events throughout the year.
