It all started with a few pots, pans, and a dream. In 1976, Rudy and Alma Alvaro opened the doors to the first Rudy’s Mexican Restaurant on Montecito Street in Santa Barbara. With Alma at the register, Rudy in the kitchen, and his mother Evangelina prepping ingredients, the heart of Rudy’s was—and still is—family.
What began with simple burgers and burritos quickly grew into a local favorite for crispy tacos, saucy enchiladas, and golden chimichangas. For over 45 years, Rudy’s has stayed true to its roots: using fresh, handmade ingredients every single day.
Now, Rudy and Alma’s three children—Rudy, Claudia, and Andrea—carry on the legacy, serving up award-winning Mexican food with the same care, flavor, and love that started it all.
