Nestled among the timeless oak-studded rolling hills of Ballard Canyon, Rusack Vineyards stands as a testament to the rich history and enduring beauty of California’s Central Coast. Founded in 1995 by husband and wife duo Geoff Rusack and Alison Wrigley Rusack, this boutique winery and vineyard has become a beacon of excellence, producing world-class, handcrafted wines that capture the essence of this remarkable region.

The Rusack estate spans 48 acres, with 17 acres meticulously replanted in 2003, utilizing the latest viticultural techniques to harness the unique terroir of Ballard Canyon. These vines are planted in harmony with the land’s natural contours, running 11° off true north. Consequently, a strategic alignment that ensures balanced sun exposure and optimal ripening of the fruit. Each small lot of vines is carefully managed, allowing the winemaking team to craft wines of unparalleled quality and character. At Rusack Vineyards, the pursuit of perfection is evident in every bottle. The estate’s Syrah, a varietal that first brought global acclaim to Ballard Canyon, makes up approximately half of the vineyard. Alongside Syrah, smaller plots of Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot flourish. Definiteively, the latter two contributing to the renowned Bordeaux-style red blend, “Anacapa.”

Sustainable Farming

The Rusacks’ dedication to sustainable and precise farming is further exemplified by their investment in a state-of-the-art irrigation system. Thus, not only enhancing water conservation but also ensuring precise moisture control, fostering the perfect growing conditions. This commitment to excellence has redefined what Ballard Canyon can offer, setting a new standard for the region’s wine production.

Beyond the estate, Rusack Vineyards collaborates with select growers in neighboring appellations like Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley. Therefore, sourcing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from iconic vineyards such as Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills.
