Meet Ofer Shepher – The Heart Behind Spear
Ofer Shepher’s love for wine started early, growing stronger with every visit to the Santa Ynez Valley. Weekend camping trips turned into a lifelong passion for coastal wines, leading him to study winemaking at UC Davis in 2004. The following year, he made a pivotal move to the historic Gnesa Ranch, where the breathtaking Santa Rita Hills fueled his vision. His mission? Find the perfect spot to plant a vineyard and build a winery that truly honors this exceptional region.
After seven years of searching, Ofer’s dream became a reality. But his dedication to the land runs even deeper. Summers spent working on his mother’s kibbutz in Israel taught him the value of teamwork, hands-on farming, and sustainability. These early experiences shape everything at Spear, where every detail of the winemaking process matters. It’s about balance, respect for the land, and a commitment to crafting wines that taste like where they came from.
