Tucked inside a charming California farmhouse in downtown Santa Ynez, S.Y. Kitchen is where rustic Italian cooking meets local, farm-fresh flavor. Opened in 2013 by Chef Luca Crestanelli and partners Kathie and Mike Gordon, the restaurant brings warmth, heart, and heritage to the table—every single night.
Born and raised in Verona, Italy, Chef Luca studied gastronomy and the culinary arts before landing in California in 2002. After refining his craft in the kitchens of Vincenti and Bar Toscana in Brentwood, and working as a globe-trotting private chef, he dreamed of a place that combined his Italian roots with the bounty of California’s Central Coast. That dream became reality with S.Y. Kitchen.
Chef Luca’s menus are inspired by the seasons, the land, and his relationships with local fishermen, farmers, and winemakers. Each dish is prepared with purpose, using the best ingredients from nearby sources.
Joining him in the kitchen is his brother, Chef Francesco Crestanelli. A master of fresh pasta, chocolate, and gelato, Francesco brings artistry and joy to every dish. “I am happiest when I can feel the flavors dancing on my palate,” he says.
The Gordons—also owners of the celebrated Toscana and Bar Toscana in Los Angeles—share the same passion for exceptional food, welcoming hospitality, and thoughtfully curated wine and cocktail menus.
