Sunstone Winery is more than a vineyard—it’s a legacy of family, passion, and sustainable winemaking. In 1989, the Rice family moved to a peaceful 52-acre ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley, unknowingly planting the roots of Santa Barbara County’s first organic vineyard. Nestled above the Santa Ynez River, Sunstone’s sun-drenched slopes, rocky soils, and cool coastal breezes create the perfect conditions for world-class wines.
From the very beginning, Fred and Linda Rice envisioned a place where wine, food, and friends could come together in harmony. “There is a sincere camaraderie and a sense of sharing that is so much a part of this lifestyle,” Linda once said. Though she passed in 2010, her dream lives on through Sunstone’s breathtaking estate, renowned wines, and the joyful moments shared by visitors from around the world.
In 2019, the Cabugos family joined Sunstone, bringing fresh energy and a shared commitment to sustainability. With Fred and Linda as their guiding stars, they continue to honor Sunstone’s legacy. Today, two Rice family members remain at the heart of the winery—Fred on the Board of Directors and Brittany as the Director of Winemaking.
