Our Mission in Action
Youth Development
Every child deserves the chance to thrive. Through the Y, youth across San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties gain life skills, values, and opportunities that shape confident, healthy futures.
Healthy Living
We empower people to live healthier in spirit, mind, and body. From fitness classes to social clubs and sports programs, our offerings promote overall wellness and meaningful community connection.
Social Responsibility
Giving back is part of who we are. Since 1887, the Channel Islands YMCA has brought people together to uplift one another through volunteerism, outreach, and partnerships that meet our region’s most pressing needs.
Belonging Starts Here
At theo matter their background, identity, or ability. Through our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, we work to build bridges that unite our community.
A Proud Local Legacy
The YMCA’s roots in our region run deep. The Santa Barbara and Ventura Ys were founded in 1887—the same year the railroad arrived in town. Since then, the Y has grown alongside our community, adapting to changing times while staying true to our mission: to strengthen communities and help people of all ages reach their full potential.
Governance & Accountability
The Channel Islands YMCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization made up of seven local YMCAs. We are led by a dedicated board of volunteers and community leaders and uphold the highest standards of transparency, ethics, and impact. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Together, we create opportunities for all to learn, grow, and thrive. Join us at the Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA—where community begins.
