At Story of Soil, we’re a tiny operation with a big heart, focused on crafting high-quality, balanced wines that express a true sense of place. Our size is our strength: it allows us to pour more time, care, and attention into every detail of the winemaking process—something larger wineries simply can’t match.

The Journey
My first harvest was in 2009, picking Pinot Noir at Santa Maria’s Gold Coast Vineyard before the sun rose. My fingers were numb, but my spirit was alive. That morning I fell in love—with the land, the vines, and the life rooted in the soil.
From 2010 to 2013, I apprenticed at Sanguis, where I learned that in winemaking, every decision matters. From fermentation to barrel stacking, I discovered the beauty in precision and the power of intention. Even tasks like re-coiling hoses taught me discipline and patience. (And yes, I can drive a forklift.)
While at Sanguis, I saved every penny to pursue my own dream. In 2012, I bought fruit for my first vintage. That year marked the start of Story of Soil—a journey in crafting wines that tell the tale of the land they come from.
Our Philosophy
We believe that wine should honor the vineyard it came from and the soil that nourished it. That’s why we continue to partner with remarkable sites, guiding each varietal to express its own truth. Through this, we aim to bottle wines with a distinct sense of place and style.
Above all, we remain committed to learning, growing, and discovering—always listening to the story the soil is telling us.
