Solvang Theaterfest, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization governed by its dedicated Board of Directors, proudly owns, operates, and maintains the Solvang Festival Theater—a treasured cultural hub in the heart of Solvang.
Our Mission
To provide a unique, live performing arts venue that delivers exceptional experiences for both artists and audiences in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring setting. We are committed to enriching our community by promoting understanding, learning, and appreciation of diverse ideas and cultures through the power of the performing arts.
A Proud History Rooted in Community
In the early 1970s, a group of visionary locals—led by Roger Nielsen, Earl Petersen, and Royce Lewellen—imagined an open-air theater that would enrich the lives of Solvang’s residents and attract new visitors. With overwhelming community support, contractor Erling Pohls, local craftspeople, and tireless volunteers built the 700-seat Solvang Festival Theater in just 58 days—a true labor of love.
Now, over 50 years later, the theater stands as a one-of-a-kind outdoor venue on California’s Central Coast, drawing more than 40,000 patrons annually and contributing over $1 million in revenue to local businesses each year.
