The Maverick Saloon
A Santa Ynez Legend
Taverns have lined Sagunto Street since 1906—but only one still stands tall: the iconic Maverick Saloon. Since opening in the 1960s, the Maverick has been a lively gathering place for locals, travelers, and music lovers alike.
Originally built by Jerry and Diane Thompson, the saloon and its neighboring barn were designed with salvaged materials to evoke Old West charm. The barn, once a restaurant and tool rental shop, officially joined the Maverick as a dancehall in 1992.
Over the years, the Maverick has hosted country music legends and rising stars through its “Nashville2You” concert series. Big names like Sugarland, Dierks Bentley, Tanya Tucker, and even Jeff Bridges have graced its stage. The venue is also home to the beloved “Tales from the Tavern” series and has made appearances in film and TV.
Step inside and you’ll find a mix of memorabilia, neon lights, and paper money signed by guests from around the world—each telling a story of nights to remember.
