Grimm’s Bluff Vineyard – Where Nature Meets Exceptional Wine
Perched 300 feet above the Santa Ynez River, Grimm’s Bluff Vineyard offers a breathtaking view and the perfect terroir for world-class wines. Nestled in the Happy Canyon AVA, this 16.5-acre vineyard is part of a 246-acre ranch, where rolling hills and rich soil create an ideal environment for Bordeaux varietals.
After carefully testing the land, we selected the southern upper mesa, closest to the bluffs, as the prime location for our vines. Beneath the sandy loam topsoil, a layer of clay, gravel, and ancient riverbed rock provides exceptional drainage and mineral complexity. With warm days, cool nights, and refreshing afternoon breezes, our vineyard thrives under the perfect conditions for bold, expressive wines.
Our Biodynamic® consultant, Philippe Coderey, and vineyard owner Rick Grimm, worked alongside a dedicated team of viticulturists to plant the vineyard in 2012. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the landscape with five unique clones making up 65% of our vines, while Sauvignon Blanc (30%) and a touch of Petit Verdot add to our estate’s diversity. Our vines are planted using a mix of traditional trellis and head-trained methods, ensuring the highest quality fruit.
From day one, we have embraced Biodynamic® and organic farming. No herbicides, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers touch our vines—just nature’s balance at work. Philippe continues to visit monthly, applying his handcrafted teas and preparations to nurture the vineyard naturally.
