Grass Mountain Trail – A Hiker’s Challenge with Breathtaking Views!
Grass Mountain Trail is a 5.2-mile out-and-back adventure near Los Olivos and Santa Ynez. In spring, the hills come alive with vibrant wildflowers, making this hike a local favorite. But don’t be fooled by the beauty—this trail is rated difficult and will put your endurance to the test! Leashed dogs are welcome, so bring your furry hiking buddy along.
The journey starts off easy and scenic, but the real challenge begins as you climb higher. The final mile is a steep ascent straight up the mountain, but the payoff is jaw-dropping views of the Santa Ynez Valley. While it’s not the tallest peak around, it offers some of the best panoramic vistas in the area.
Part of the Midland School Trail System
This incredible hike is made possible by Midland School, which generously opens its private trail system to the public. Before heading out, hikers must fill out a permit and parking pass at the trailhead permit box.
Getting There
Take Figueroa Mountain Road, passing what was once Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch. Keep an eye out for a cattle guard—parking is just beyond it on the right. Cross the road to find the trailhead and permit box.
Trail closures may occur! Before heading out, check www.midland-school.org for updates.
