At Chanin Wine Co., we celebrate the magic of Santa Barbara County, crafting wines that truly capture the essence of each vineyard. Our passion? Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—two grapes that beautifully express the subtle differences in soil, climate, and location. Thanks to cool coastal breezes, marine-rich soils, and a long growing season, our vineyards create the perfect home for these Burgundian gems.
We believe great wine starts in the vineyard. That’s why every bottle we make comes from a single, carefully chosen site—no blending, just pure vineyard expression. We seek out old vines, working with some of the oldest in the region, to create refreshingly balanced wines with naturally lower alcohol. Unlike the bold, over-the-top California cult wines, ours are elegant, food-friendly, and built to age gracefully. Every vineyard we source from is organic or sustainably farmed, ensuring a commitment to both quality and the environment.
Our winemaking philosophy? Keep it natural, keep it pure. We let the vineyard shine by avoiding excessive alcohol and modern additives like commercial yeasts and enzymes. We don’t filter our wines or rely on intrusive processing techniques. Instead, we focus on growing the healthiest grapes possible—so nothing extra is needed. The result? Wines that are balanced, complex, and true to their roots.
Meet our winemaker, Gavin Chanin! Named one of FORBES’ “30 under 30” in Food & Wine and a “Winemaker to Watch” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Gavin honed his craft at Au Bon Climat and Qupé under legends Jim Clendenen and Bob Lindquist. He’s traveled the world—from South Africa to Burgundy—gathering inspiration before launching Chanin Wine Co. in 2007. His mission? Creating wines that tell the story of Santa Barbara County, one vineyard at a time. Cheers to that!
