PCPA Pacific Conservatory Theatre
– at Allan Hancock College
Welcome to Pacific Conservatory Theatre – where stories come to life and futures are built.
At PCPA, we believe in the transformative power of theatre. In a world full of challenges, art gives us the tools to feel deeply, dream boldly, and connect meaningfully. As conservators of both story and talent, we plant seeds for a richer, more empathetic tomorrow—on stage and in the hearts of our community. Whether you’re a first-time guest or a returning patron, we invite you to take part in this journey of hope, imagination, and human connection.
Our Mission PCPA is dedicated to enriching the cultural life of California’s Central Coast through exceptional theatre and professional training. We are proud to: * Serve our current audience and cultivate future ones * Train the next generation of theatre professionals * Uphold the highest standards of artistry, ethics, and education Training Ground for Tomorrow’s Artists PCPA is the only resident professional company and training program of its kind in the U.S. offered at a community college.
Our conservatory model pairs students with working professionals, giving them real-world experience in a fully producing theatre company. Each semester, over 100 students gain invaluable knowledge through hands-on training in acting and technical theatre.
A Proud History
Since 1964 Founded on the vision of Allan Hancock College President Walter Conrad, PCPA has been producing exemplary theatre for over 58 years. What began as a small group of 21 actors performing in a converted barracks has blossomed into a world-class company of over 50 theatre professionals and 10,000 alumni who have gone on to make a mark in the American theatre.
Our legacy isn’t just about buildings or productions—it’s about people. Generations of artists and students have invested their creativity, passion, and hard work to bring meaningful art to our stages and beyond.
Our Land Acknowledgment
We respectfully acknowledge that our theatres, studios, and offices reside on the ancestral lands of the Chumash people, particularly the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. We honor their enduring legacy and continued leadership in our community. Learn more at santaynezchumash.org.
Changing Lives Through Theatre
Through outreach programs, PCPA reaches more than 20,000 K–12 students annually—many experiencing live theatre for the first time. We believe art should be accessible, and thanks to your support, we’re making that possible. Our connection to Allan Hancock College and initiatives like the Hancock Promise—which provides a free first year of college to local high school graduates—further underscores our shared mission: to change the odds for our community through education and the arts.
Thank You for Supporting Live Theatre
As a ticket holder, donor, subscriber, or sponsor, *you* are making live theatre—and the future of theatre—possible. Your belief in what we do ensures that we continue telling powerful stories and training tomorrow’s theatre artists.
