Skyview Los Alamos & Norman
Skyview Los Alamos Est. 1959 – Reimagined 2018
A Hilltop Haven in the Heart of Wine Country How It Started
Originally built in 1959, Skyview Motel was a sun-drenched oasis for Highway 101 roadtrippers—perfectly positioned between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Known for its sweeping views and the only pool for miles, it even welcomed swimmers for 25 cents a dip.
Legend has it, The Mamas & the Papas may have stopped in during its heyday—a time when the place truly captured the essence of California Dreamin’. But as the years passed, the once-iconic roadside retreat fell into disrepair, eventually earning a new local nickname: The Bates Motel.
The Revival In 2016, Nomada Hotel Group acquired the five-acre property and embarked on a thoughtful restoration—honoring its mid-century architecture while breathing fresh, modern energy into every detail.
After two years of renovations, Skyview Los Alamos reopened in 2018 with 33 beautifully reimagined guest rooms, a stylish adults-only pool, and Norman, our signature restaurant + bar (a cheeky nod to the property’s cinematic nickname). Today, remnants of the past—like the original yellow MOTEL sign, vintage carport with wood-carved cacti, and a working vineyard producing our house rosé—live seamlessly alongside 21st-century amenities.
