Grimm’s Bluff Estate is a Demeter certified Biodynamic farm perched on the cliffs above the Santa Ynez River in the Happy Canyon AVA. The mineral driven wines draw flavors from ancient river stones along with the rich valley sunshine. Gobelet trained vines, aging in concrete eggs, and traditional winemaking are used to express the distinctive terroir of this breathtaking site. Planted to virgin soil, Rick and Aurora Grimm have been fully committed to Biodynamic & Organic practices in the vineyard, orchard, and animal pastures from inception. The 246 acre ranch is completely run on solar power with beautiful barns and workshops made from Forest Stewardship Council certified cedar.

Bill Wathen and Dick Doré (the Foxen Boys) have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery & Vineyard at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in Northern Santa Barbara County. Since that time their dedication has remained the same: the creation of small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines using a straightforward and minimalist approach to winemaking.

The winery is named in memory of William Benjamin Foxen, and English sea captain and Dick’s great-great grandfather. Benjamin Foxen came to Santa Barbara in the early 1800’s and purchased the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in 1837 with a Mexican Land Grant that totaled nearly 9000 acres, that comprised most of what is now known as Foxen Canyon. Captain Foxen adopted the distinctive anchor as his ranch cattle brand, which became the trademark of the Foxen Vineyard & Winery. We are proud that we have made our home on the now 2000-acre Rancho Tinaquaic, which remains in family hands.

Over 20 years ago, our Founding Partner, Thomas Stolpman, discovered what we believe to be one of the greatest viticulture sites on earth. Hidden in the hills of California’s Central Coast, on a rare Limestone outcropping and unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind, this unique land is ideally suited to grow Syrah and Roussanne grapes. We are committed to preserving this natural environment for our vines through natural farming, dry farming, and sustainable employment. In the winery, we prefer native fermentation and minimal manipulation.
Dedicated to sensible farming and wine making, we believe that we can create natural, vibrant, site-specific wines, with a focus unique to Ballard Canyon AVA, California.
