    at Rancho Santa Rosa ~

Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery at Rancho Santa Rosa is the realization of vintner Bill Foley’s dream to produce world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara County. A historic parcel located in the Sta. (Santa) Rita Hills region of the Santa Ynez Valley, Rancho Santa Rosa was formerly a thoroughbred horse ranch. In 1998, the 460-acre property was purchased and planted to 230 acres of vineyard. Devoted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, the vineyard has been subdivided into 59 micro-blocks with each being farmed, harvested and vinified separately. The handsome stables have been refurbished to house the winery, with tremendous detail going into the planning of a modern facility, while honoring age-old winemaking tradition.

    Deliberate. Historic. Sublime.

Winemaker Justin Willett and grower/owner James Ontiveros are at the top of their game with these Native9 Wines, a style Doug Wilder from the Purely Domestic Wine Report calls out as ‘extraordinary’ (10/2022) (rating the current wines 95-98 points.) Tours are conducted by Wes Hagen, who has grown and made wine in Santa Barbara for 30 years and researched and wrote most of the American Viticultural Areas in Santa Barbara History. Expect elegant, deliberate wines of time and place and a level of hospitality that will surprise and delight the wine newbie all the way to a Master Somm. Wine and Spirits Top 100 Wineries of the World: 2021.

    Rancho Ontiveros

Established in 1781. James Ontiveros’ ancestor, Josef Ontiveros came from Avila Spain, through Sinaloa, MX, Loreto, Baja and into San Diego and Los Angeles with the Reyes expedition in 1781. The family landed in Santa Maria in 1855, and farming, ranching, cattle and grapes have been part of their family since the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Come hear and taste the whole story.”

    Winegrowers Alliance

The Sta. Rita Hills Winegrowers Alliance was formed in 1997 to unify growers and winemakers in the Western Santa Ynez Valley for the purpose of developing their own American Viticulture Area and to promote this unique wine growing region.

Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation (AMA)

The Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation is located on California’s Central Coast in Santa Barbara County. The Pacific Ocean’s marine layer and afternoon ocean breezes traverse the coastal valley corridors between the Purisima Hills and the Santa Rosa Hills, creating the perfect environment for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other cool climate wine grape varieties.

    Alliance Mission

The Sta. Rita Hills AVA status was granted in 2001 by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Regulation Division. The mission of the Alliance is to support the viticulture and enological business interests of its 47 Members, as they relate to grapes and wine from our AVA.

    Story of Soil Winery

As a small winery, Story of Soil, we can put more time, attention, and care into our wines (than the larger wineries can afford to, really). To make wines of the highest quality, we select vineyards that are farmed with the greatest level of care.

    Single Vineyard Focus

We focus on single varietal and single vineyard. Single vineyard allows us to focus on “the place” the grapes are farmed and single varietal will show how each varietal is affected by that place (i.e. soil and microclimate).

    Demetria Estate

Established in 2005, Demetria Estate is a family owned winery. Our goal is to produce wines of distinction and character rivaling those of the world’s greatest estates. Our wines are artfully crafted to showcase the unique growing conditions of the Santa Ynez Valley and Sta. Rita Hills. We believe that low yields, sustainable and biodynamic farming practices, and gentle winemaking produce wines of exceptional quality.

    Greek heritage

Demetria Estate grew out of the desire of owners John and Sandra Zahoudanis to continue a family legacy connecting his Greek heritage with their family’s future. John grew up on a modest family farm at the base of Mount Olympus in Greece. The unparalleled beauty and Mediterranean feel of the Demetria Estate reminded John of his homeland and became the perfect location to carry on the family tradition of farming and careful stewardship of the land.

    Dovecote Ranch and Estate Winery

Dovecote Ranch and Estate Winery is dedicated to growing and crafting wines that allow the beauty and character of our land to speak through them. Our 30-year old own-rooted vines and sandy-limestone soils produce small quantities of intensely concentrated cool-climate Rhône fruit. Local daily marine influence slows and extends ripening for uncommon complexity and grace.

    Dovecote Wines

Dovecote Wines are completely farmed and made by hand with a deep respect and love for their origin. They are meant as an ode to our family’s gratitude in calling this special place home. In their creation, it is our hope that our lives contribute to their meaning, and their meaning contribute to the lives of those we share them with.

Please join us and we’d be honored to share our wines with you.

We believe wine is a four-dimensional picture of place and time. Establishing a personal connection with its physical source creates a uniquely expanded sensory experience. At Dovecote we craft wine as a means of enhancing our relationship with the land from which it originates, and we take pride in sharing this special awareness with others.

    Hands On Honest Winemaking

In 2012 Will Henry and Lane Tanner ran into each other in the Santa Maria Valley, and realized that they shared a common vision: to make wines from the best cool-climate vineyards in Santa Barbara County, and to follow a regimen consistent with California’s early days of hands-on, honest winemaking in the Santa Ynez Valley.

    Memorable Wines

The duo asserts that the most balanced (and thus memorable) wines are made from fruit that is picked relatively early on the harvest calendar, the end result being a wine that is livelier on the palate, deeper in complexity, lower in alcohol, and more worthy of cellaring.

    EVAN’S RANCH Winery

Located in the renowned Santa Rita Hills appellation of western Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County and established during the 1990s by the Gainey family, who have farmed in Santa Ynez Valley for four generations and were searching for an ideal site on which to cultivate the classic cool-climate varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.

Named after owner Dan Gainey’s great-grandfather, Evan’s Ranch is just ten miles from the Pacific Ocean and benefits from its marine influence, which lengthens the growing season, limits crop yields, and produces grapes with ripe, concentrated flavors balanced by bright acidity and a refreshing minerality. This enables us to craft six very limited-production, world-class wines: Las Brisas and La Marina Chardonnays, Las Brisas and Lone Oak Pinot Noirs and Las Brisas and Lone Oak Syrahs.

Bill Wathen and Dick Doré (the Foxen Boys) have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery & Vineyard at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in Northern Santa Barbara County. Since that time their dedication has remained the same: the creation of small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines using a straightforward and minimalist approach to winemaking.

The winery is named in memory of William Benjamin Foxen, and English sea captain and Dick’s great-great grandfather. Benjamin Foxen came to Santa Barbara in the early 1800’s and purchased the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in 1837 with a Mexican Land Grant that totaled nearly 9000 acres, that comprised most of what is now known as Foxen Canyon. Captain Foxen adopted the distinctive anchor as his ranch cattle brand, which became the trademark of the Foxen Vineyard & Winery. We are proud that we have made our home on the now 2000-acre Rancho Tinaquaic, which remains in family hands.

Shortly thereafter he recognized this location as an ideal microclimate to produce top-quality Bordeaux varietals. Throughout his experience he has dedicated himself with fanatical fervor to make exceptional block designates of estate Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon that push the quality envelope for Bordeaux style wines in Santa Barbara County.
