The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern

Mattei’s Tavern dates back to 1886, when a Swiss immigrant named Felix Mattei built the tavern as the primary stagecoach stop between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Since its earliest days, Mattei’s has been a community hub; the 19th-century water tower still serves as a landmark for locals and visitors alike. The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern has long held a fabled place in Central Coast lore enjoyed for generations, the beloved landmark opens a new chapter in Winter 2023 as the definitive luxury destination in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Historical Architecture and Modern Comfort Harmoniously Woven Into One
Rich with rustic sophistication and legitimate history, Mattei’s Tavern effectively melds old with new. The Tavern Building dates back to 1886 and the original cottages have been painstakingly restored to preserve their distinctive details, while new buildings sit alongside them – seamlessly blending with the authentic structures.

Syrahs & Grenaches

Founded in 2018 hand-crafting wines that are compelling and delicious expressions of site and origin from the great vineyards of Santa Barbara County Wine Country.

Terre et Sang is a family. We are a mother and son leading a small crew of hard working people with the simple desire to make that which we love, together. Each vintage we make a small amount of single-vineyard Syrahs & Grenaches as well as some unique blends from our collection of storied sites. The winemaking is attentive and detail-oriented but never manipulative. We want the fruit to speak for itself.

Dovecote Ranch and Estate Winery

Dovecote Ranch and Estate Winery is dedicated to growing and crafting wines that allow the beauty and character of our land to speak through them. Our 30-year old own-rooted vines and sandy-limestone soils produce small quantities of intensely concentrated cool-climate Rhône fruit. Local daily marine influence slows and extends ripening for uncommon complexity and grace.

Dovecote Wines

Dovecote Wines are completely farmed and made by hand with a deep respect and love for their origin. They are meant as an ode to our family’s gratitude in calling this special place home. In their creation, it is our hope that our lives contribute to their meaning, and their meaning contribute to the lives of those we share them with.

Please join us and we’d be honored to share our wines with you.

We believe wine is a four-dimensional picture of place and time. Establishing a personal connection with its physical source creates a uniquely expanded sensory experience. At Dovecote we craft wine as a means of enhancing our relationship with the land from which it originates, and we take pride in sharing this special awareness with others.

Taste at Mission Pond
Come experience Dovecote’s wines in their birthplace and immerse yourself in their origins and history. Visit Dovecote’s Mission Pond as our private guest. Pause, swirl, breathe deeply, and enjoy the gentle coastal air as you sip estate wines that share a common soul. Tastings are by appointment only: (805) 570-0443 or kristen@dovecote.com

Contemporary and Traditional

Mexican Food

New Mexican restaurant,  which offers both contemporary and traditional Mexican food with an emphasis on locally sourced, fresh, and artisanal ingredients.

Chips and salsa, and margaritas, and sizzling fajitas, and also have some deeper cuts from more traditional Mexican dishes that you wouldn’t necessarily find at your run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex place.

Aguachile de callitos—a ceviche dish with fresh, thinly sliced New Jersey scallops, along with cuts of avocado, cucumber, cilantro, serrano, and pickled red onion—is another favorite among the restaurant’s diverse selection of entrees and appetizers, which includes enchiladas, quesadillas, flautas, and much more.

Grass Mountain Trail is a 5.2 mile out and back trail located near the towns of Los Olivos and Santa Ynez. Depending on the season, the trail may feature beautiful wildflowers which adds to its popularity. The trail is primarily used for hiking and rated as difficult; dogs on leash are also able to use this trail.

Starting off easy, this trail steadily increases in difficulty until the final mile directly up the side of the mountain to the peak. It is not the highest mountain in the area but has commanding views over most the surrounding area.

The Grass Mountain hiking trail is part of The Midland School trails, a private trail system opened to the public through the generosity of the school. Hikers must fill out a permit and parking pass at the trail head, where permit boxes are located.

Finding the Trailhead: Shortly after passing what was formerly Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, as you ascend Figueroa Mountain Road, you will cross over a cattle guard. Parking should be availab

Set amidst acres of wilderness flanked by the picturesque Santa Ynez and San Rafael Mountains, lies glimmering Cachuma Lake. Here you will find practically everything you need for a relaxing getaway in the great outdoors. Mild temperatures, typically sunny skies, and celebrated fishing conditions make camping here during winter months exceptionally rewarding.

The County entered into a long-term lease with the Federal Bureau of Reclamation in 1953 to manage the 9,000 acre Cachuma Lake Recreation Area. Cachuma Lake was formed by the construction of Bradbury Dam in that same year.

Located off scenic Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley, Cachuma Lake is midway between the beaches and bustle of Santa Barbara and the Danish Community of Solvang. At any age… in any season… you’ll find that the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area offers a fun and relaxing getaway.

From the South: Take Highway 101 north to Santa Barbara. Take the “Cachuma Lake/Highway 154” exit and follow the signs. Drive app

You'll find a fully stocked general store, gas station, coin-operated laundromat, and hot showers. Great care has been taken to make our facilities accessible to everyone. Children's playgrounds, lake cruises, the nature center, fishing piers, and hiking trails await you and your family. The Marina is open year-round and sells bait and tackle, fuel and fishing licenses with a full rental fleet to get you out on the water.
Dogs are Welcome! The money collected from the dog fee program has paid for and will continue to upkeep a dog park for you to take advantage of when you come to stay with us! Please be sure to read the signs before you enter and remember all other rules still apply. Dogs are required to be on a leash of 6 ft. or less anywhere else in the Park. We ask all dog handlers to bring a current copy of proof of rabies vaccination. Don't forget dogs are allowed in boats, as long as they have no contact with the water at any time. There is a fee per day per dog.
