The Wildling Museum of Art & Nature is proud to present its newest exhibition Private Collections of the Santa Barbara Region, comprised of artworks borrowed from the private collections of its members.

The art we choose to hang in our homes not only lives with us, but inspires, comforts, and challenges us. In organizing this exhibit, Executive Director, Stacey Otte-Demangate visited homes throughout the Santa Barbara County and was delighted in seeing so many artworks of our local area. She was met with unique stories of how a piece was acquired and why it was so special to them. Some collectors create a cohesive collecting theme surrounding a particular style, genre, or subject matter. Other collectors choose works based on their personal ties with an artist or because pieces have been handed down from generation to generation. While there was a true diversity of collections, a common thread that ran through them all was the passion for collecting landscapes of the region they call home – the Santa Barbara region.

The artworks collected by Wildling members are not only of outstanding quality, but a fantastic testament to the uniqueness of the area we call home. From historic to contemporary, these selections display the hills, coastlines, missions, and natural monuments that we have grown to love. The works capture a special sense of place and time, and expose the deep and abiding importance that nature plays in our lives.

A sampling of artists included in the exhibit are John Iwerks, David DeMatteo, Phoebe Brunner, Annie Yakutis, Marcia Burtt, Richard Schloss, Dewitt Parshall, Lockwood de Forest, Nicole Strasburg, and Ray Strong.
