On May 16 & 17, WaterWise Santa Barbara County is offering a two-day Watershed Wise Landscape Professional Training (U.S. EPA WaterSense approved certification program) for landscape professionals. The training will be held at the Santa Ynez Valley Grange, located at 2374 Alamo Pintado Ave. in Los Olivos.
This interactive class consists of both classroom and fieldwork instruction, providing professionals the fundamentals of creating and managing landscapes that thrive in our arid climate and use limited water resources wisely. Landscape professionals will learn the watershed landscaping approach, which has become the “new normal” for drought-stricken California. The class will cover:
-Conducting landscape water audit and site assessments
-Designing projects within water budgets
-Utilizing the soil food web to build living soil without chemicals
-Developing stormwater pollution prevention plans and zero dry-weather runoff strategies
-Calculating irrigation run times and precipitation rates using Plant/Soil/Water information, and more
WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE THIS COURSE?
-Certified professionals will be added to a searchable list of landscape specialists as well as the EPA WaterSense National Directory.
-This training and certification will help you do your job better during this intense time of drought and set you apart from the competition.
-Commercial and public projects and new development will require third-party certification of the Water Efficient Landscape -Ordinance (water budgets). This certification qualifies individuals for providing those third-party site audits.
-If agencies are spending money to educate homeowners and property owners, professionals need to be able to provide services that meet the new demand.
