The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café, located at 2879 Grand Ave, Los Olivos, is pleased to announce their next featured winemaker for the “Friday Night Winemakers” series. Friday, August 28, winemaker Mikael Sigouin from Kaena Wines will be chatting with guests and offering samples of their wines, which he feels would pair perfectly with their meal, during the dinner hours of 6-8PM. Held the last Friday of each month in 2015, the informal and friendly atmosphere at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café is the perfect place to learn more about these special winemakers while enjoying the fresh local dishes from the Los Olivos Café’s new Spring menu. No reservations are required to participate. However, dinner reservations are strongly recommended. For more information or reservations: 805-688-7265 or www.losolivoscafe.com.
Raised in Hawaii, Mikael’s palate was exposed to a wide variety of aromas and delicate fragrances. He often spent many hours by his grandmother’s side, watching as she prepared meals by layering her ingredients to bring out the best flavors. As a child, she called him “Ka’ena’ai” – meaning “potential for greatness”, and Mikael has taken that nickname to heart. Mikael says winemaking is deeply personal, “It is my artistry, my meditation, my profession, my life.” He has been working in the industry for 15 years, and has had the opportunity to work amongst the best winemakers in the Valley. He has also been able to work with a variety of fruit from vineyards in Santa Barbara County, and that experience has led him to his primary focus: Grenache. With Kaena Wines now in it’s second decade, Mikael is looking forward to this Friday Night Winemaker event to share the “Kaena” wines with guests of the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café.
