The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café, located at 2879 Grand Ave, Los Olivos, is pleased to announce their next featured winemaker for the “Friday Night Winemakers” series. Friday, June 26, winemaker Dieter Cronje from Presqu’ile Winery will be chatting with guests and offering samples of his wines, which he feels would pair perfectly with their meal, during the dinner hours of 6-8PM. Held the last Friday of each month in 2015, the informal and friendly atmosphere at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café is the perfect place to learn more about these special winemakers while enjoying the fresh local dishes from the Los Olivos Café’s new Spring menu. No reservations are required to participate. However, dinner reservations are strongly recommended. For more information or reservations: 805-688-7265 or www.losolivoscafe.com.
Dieter Cronje, born in South Africa, had an interest in winemaking at an early age. After studying oenology in Stellenbosch and graduating, he went on to make Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Chenin Blanc for the Kanu Vineyards. At some point he was introduced to Pinot Noir and, from then on, it became his mission to find someplace that he could create this singular wine. With long time friend Matt Murphy, Cronje spent many evenings discussing the possibility of making wine and eventually a partnership was formed between Cronje, Matt, and Matt’s parents; all of whom shared a genuine love of working together and a passion to create a really good legacy. After extensive searching they bought a parcel of land in the Santa Maria Valley and their dream took flight. Dieter Cronje uses a lot of care in his process, and guests will have an opportunity to discuss his winemaking philosophy. Dieter is looking forward to this opportunity to share the “Presqui’le” wines with guests of the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café.
