Empty Bowls: A Campaign to Fight Hunger

October 16, 2014

On Thursday, October 16th, PHP will celebrate “World Food Day” with an “Empty Bowls: Dine and Donate” campaign to highlight the fact that in the United States and even in the Santa Ynez and Los Alamos Valleys, many children and adults go to bed hungry. There are two fundraising components to this campaign.

First, there is a direct mail campaign sent to over 3,000 household soliciting funds for the PHP Food Program. A brown bag mailer and insert (see sample below) are sent the first week in October of each year.

Second, local restaurants and wineries will donate a portion of their meals and tasting sales on October 16th towards PHP’s Food Program. Each year, we have incredible and generous restaurants and wineries (listed below) that have signed on to participate. PHP promotes these restaurants and encourages supporters to dine out via the direct mail piece, press releases, web site postings, and by posting special Empty Bowls Campaign posters in their windows. Now… go eat out!
