Our 2024 Annual Harvest Fall Fiesta at Zaca Mesa will mark the close of our 49th vintage harvested at our historic estate winery and the 51st year since our founding in 1973.

With delicious tacos from Tortilleria Mexico and live music performed by Robert Herrera, this celebration is bound to be one for the books!

Our Story: A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence

Founded in 1973 by John Cushman and five friends, Zaca Mesa Winery & Vineyards has been at the forefront of winemaking in Santa Barbara County. As the third winery established in the region, we embraced experimentation from the start. We planted a variety of grapes to discover which thrived in our unique terroir. In 1978, our first winemaker, Ken Brown, made history by planting Syrah, becoming the first to do so in Santa Barbara County. This original block, now known as the Black Bear Block, is the oldest Syrah block on the Central Coast!

Years later, we made waves again when our 1993 Zaca Mesa Syrah, crafted by Winemaker Daniel Gehrs, became the first Central Coast wine to make Wine Spectator’s Top Ten, landing at #6. It even graced the White House dinner table for French President Jacques Chirac in 1996!

Since 1997, we’ve honed our craft, focusing on producing exceptional Rhône-style wines that showcase our estate’s unique character. Our wines have consistently received 90+ scores, solidifying our reputation. Today, Winemaker Kristin Bryden and Associate Winemaker Andrew Keil continue our legacy. Their artisanal approach ensures every bottle reflects the magic of Zaca Mesa’s unique site.
