A Thursday Evening in the SYV

I write this at 9pm on a Thursday in the SYV after a full evening spent with the community. It started at 5:10pm in Los Olivos at Refugio Ranch Vineyards tasting room. The ranch itself is amazing as a recent tour with Director of Sales, Chase Yost, proved. But the tasting room is also very nice, spacious and in a premiere location; as you turn from 154 onto Grand to enter town, Refugio Ranch Vineyards is on your left. I was here to attend a LOBO (Los Olivos Business Organization) social. The wines are quite tasty and the ambience is great. I could only stay for a few minutes as I was asked to speak with the Los Olivos Rotary at Grange Hall regarding Tourism and what VisitSYV does for our region.

I say goodbye and head over to Grange. The Rotary as you must know are always good, optimistic people, doing great work for others. The Los Olivos Rotary certainly fits that description. They had just put on another successful Jazz & Olive Festival (raising over $40k for various charities) and VisitSYV was honored to be a sponsor. I spoke for about 15 minutes and then took questions. I left feeling good about the opportunity and interaction.

Next up was the Babcock Winery & Vineyards industry party. I took the 101 South to 246 West towards Lompoc. Babcock is 10 miles from 101. It is a beautiful location and the tasting room is quite large. They were educating everyone as they poured tastes so that the wine could be experienced and shared with knowledge. The cheese provided was a great compliment to the flight. I was just settling in to a game of backgammon when I was reminded of a surprise birthday party for Christi Schaeffer of Gypsy Studios at Sevtap Winery  (Happy Birthday, Christi!). So once again, I hit the road towards Solvang.

I arrived at Sevtap’s tasting room on Copenhagen right on time. Or right after time, as the surprise had already taken place. The first thing I think upon entering is “This place is cool”. I highly recommend checking it out for the character, the friendly service, and the Nola (Merlot). And a huge congratulations to owner and winemaker, Art Sevtap, who was just honored as The California Travel Association’s Winery of the Year.

Now, relaxed, in my PJs, back at my home office, I remember I had one more event to attend this evening. Must be getting old.
